Sacramento To Put Out The Fire?
Curtailing the use of wood burning fireplaces will be debated on Thursday by a subcommittee of the Sacramento City Council . The meeting will take place at 12:30PM at City Hall, 915 I Street, in the first floor council chambers. Any ordinance would need approval by the full Council.

Update: The subcommittee declined to recommend an ordinance banning wood fireplace usage to the full Sacramento City Council. Instead they recommended public education about the health dangers of wood smoke and the importance of not burning fires on high particulate days - usally when it's foggy.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District board is also working on a rebate program to replace non-EPA certified wood-burning inserts and other devices with low-polluting fireplace units. This plan was endorsed by the City Council subcommittee.
So I guess for now my one fire a year - on Christmas Day - can go ahead - although not if it's foggy.
