Meridian Project Systems is Acquired
Another acquisition of a local promising startup - Meridian Project Systems. This follows recent acquisitons of Serious Magic, Sierra Logic, International Displayworks. For now, it appears that the jobs at Meridian will be safe as their acquirer Trimble Navigation Ltd. plans to run them as a separate unit with one of their founders, John Bodrozic, serving as the general manager.
You can read the details of the acquisition - no $ amount mentioned - on Meridian's website
The candidates for that local headquarter's company that we all want to see grow and thrive in Sacramento are getting less in number by the week.

Gillian, do you consider a company that's been in business for over 13 years a start up? If not, you may need to rephrase your first sentence. As a former employee and current reseller, I have 6+ years experience with them. Through 2001, this company was growing very fast and was on various lists. Growth has since slowed down. Now that they are owned by a company that has large complementary vertical markets around the globe, I can't see anything but growth at the Folsom office. While it's no longer the company's HQ, it is still this local company's main office and I don't see why the locals would know or treat them any differently. I believe their hiring practices still run through Folsom and not the Bay Area.

thanks for your comment. you are right to chastise me about the use of the term 'startup.' but there was method to my temporary madness. i knew that the initial investors wanted a return on their money - that still says startup to me - and that some sort of liquidation event needed to happen.
i hope you are right about MPS thriving as a standalone division and that with new ownership they will get back on that hot trajectory so many of us were excited about a few years ago. but the way i see it, there won't be any big IPO from MPS anytime soon, which is what we had hoped for initially, to spread investment money and 'been there, done that' talent in the community to fund future startups...that's the way it's supposed to work and it's not going to plan so far in Sacramento.
please keep reading and commenting!
