Some Things Just Don't Make Any Logical Sense
Pierre and I were at the airport last night waiting for a friend to arrive. We got there early and stood watching the TSA people at work. One by one travelers stripped off their shoes, belts, jackets, watches. Bags were opened and searched. People stood spreadeagled while they were wanded. Small bottles of water, larger bottles of shampoo and, in one case, a jar of barbeque sauce are removed from various travelers and thrown into a nearby trash can. Just another day at the security gate. And then Pierre said, "Something makes no sense here." I resisted responding that none of it makes any sense! But he continued, "If all that liquid is potentially hazardous, why is it getting thrown into a trash can right here?" Good point, Pierre. I agree - none of it makes any sense.

The whole thing is beyond absurd. I can't tell you how many times I'll be at my destination and realized I went right through and have ended up accidently and unintentionally with something "restricted", large amounts on liquids, a knive, or lighter or something.
The process should begin at the freeway off ramp of the airport with retina screening while cars are entering and RFID'ing off all vechicles coming in the airport property.
The good news that is a step in the right direction is that "VIP Pre-Screening" thing...I haven't seen it in action yet, and it will mostly only be available at the big airports, but you can pay like $200 for a pass that lets you skip through traditional TSA lines, and be more or less treated like an "airport employee".
